The hundred smaller searches nobody is competing for
Everyone fights over “bakery near me”. Meanwhile “eggless birthday cake delivery Jumeirah” and “gluten free sourdough Hackney” and “high tea cakes Fitzroy” sit there with nobody serious ranking for them — and those searches convert far better, because the person already knows exactly what they want.

Slower than Maps. Cheaper than ads. It compounds.
Maps gets you the near-me traffic and gets it fast. Local SEO is the longer game: ranking the website itself for the specific, intent-heavy searches that happen before someone opens a map.
It takes three to six months to really show, which is why most agencies either skip it or charge for it and quietly do nothing. But a page that ranks keeps ranking. Unlike ads, it does not stop the day you stop paying — and unlike Maps, there is no cap on how many different searches you can own.
For a bakery, the economics are unusually good, because almost nobody in your category writes anything. The bar is low.
Four things, in this order
Technical foundation
Speed, mobile rendering, crawlability, LocalBusiness and Product structured data, a sitemap Google actually reads, and the handful of errors that are quietly capping every page you have.
The keyword map
What people in your specific area type, what they mean by it, and which of those searches you can realistically win. One page per intent — not one page stuffed with all of them.
Pages worth ranking
Product pages, occasion pages, neighbourhood pages and dietary pages, each written to be the best answer to one question. Thin pages spun out of a template do not work any more and have not for years.
Local signals
Consistent name, address and phone across the directories that matter in your country, plus the local mentions — press, suppliers, venues, wedding directories — that tell Google you are a real fixture of the area.
Where bakery SEO differs
Seasons are enormous
Eid, Christmas, Mother's Day, Valentine's, Diwali, exam season, wedding season. The content for each has to be live and indexed six to eight weeks ahead, not the week before. Half our content calendar is just getting this timing right.
Dietary terms are gold
Eggless, gluten free, vegan, halal, nut free, sugar free. Low competition, high intent, and the customer has usually been struggling to find anyone — which makes them extremely loyal once they do.
Radius beats city
“Bakery London” is a vanity term you will not win and would not want. The neighbourhood and borough terms are winnable, convert better, and there are dozens of them.
Your photos are a ranking asset
Original photography with proper file names and alt text, used across the site, the profile and social. It is one of the few genuine signals of a real business that cannot be faked at scale.
When not to buy local SEO
If you need orders this month, this is the wrong product. Say so and we will point you at Maps and reviews, or at paid social, both of which move inside weeks.
If you are under six months old with no reviews and no site worth the name, start there too. SEO applied to a weak foundation is money spent making a weak thing slightly more visible.
Local SEO is for bakeries with a working business that want to stop renting their traffic. It is the right thing to start once the fast levers are already pulled.
About local SEO
How long before I see anything?
Technical fixes can show within weeks. New pages typically take eight to sixteen weeks to settle into a position. Real compounding — where the site is pulling steady orders on its own — is a six to twelve month arc. Anyone promising you page one in thirty days is describing ads.
Do you write the content?
Yes. You will be asked factual questions — what goes in the eggless sponge, what your lead time is for a three-tier — and we write the rest. You approve before anything publishes.
Will AI search kill this?
It changes it rather than killing it, and mostly in your favour. AI answers are assembled from sources, and the sources they reach for are the ones with clear, specific, well-structured answers to real questions — which is the same thing that ranks in Google. The groundwork overlaps almost entirely.
What differs is narrow but real: writing so a passage can be quoted out of context, being specific rather than broad, and earning mentions on sites that are not your own. That is a separate piece of work and it has its own page. If you are buying one of the two, buy this one first — Maps and local search are still where most of your customers are.
What if I only sell in one small area?
That is the ideal case. A tight radius means fewer competitors, cheaper terms and faster results. The work is smaller and so is the bill.
